The Volume of Distribution of Sodium Thiosulfate

چکیده
The importance of total body fluid and electrolytes and their distribution in the body cell mass has been increasingly emphasized in the care of acutely and chronically ill patients. In order to determine distribution of water and electrolytes, a convenient and accurate technique for the estimation of the extracellular fluid space is essential. Moore (1) has demonstrated that the chemical dissection of the patient (to determine total body composition) is feasible by the dilution of radioactive and stable isotope tracers used in conjunction with a means for measuring the extracellular fluid. While techniques such as deuterium dilution, tritium dilution, and antipyrine dilution for the in vivo measurement of total body water can be checked for absolute accuracy against desiccation and specific gravity measurements (2), no such criterion for the accuracy of extracellular fluid measurements is available. Evaluation of extracellular fluid techniques must depend upon their reproducibility and compatibility with microanatomical studies and estimations of the volume of distribution of normal extracellular constituents. In addition to interstitial and plasma water, the extracellular compartment must be considered to include the cerebrospinal fluid, water in the gastrointestinal tract, in glandular lumina, and bone matrix water. No technique is at present available which has been proven to measure the absolute volume of the entire compartment. Indeed at certain points the exact boundaries of the "com-

Prediction of recovery of gold thiosulfate on activated carbon using artificial neural networks
Since a high toxicity of cyanide which use as a reagent in the gold processing plant, thiosulfate has been recognized as a environmental friendly reagent for leaching of gold from ore. After gold leaching process it's important for recovery of gold from solution using adsorption or extraction methods, One of these methods is activated carbon. The loading of gold from industrial thiosulfate solut...
متن کاملBiochemical properties and biological functions of the enzyme rhodanese in domestic animals
The enzyme rhodanese (thiosulfate: cyanide sulfurtransferase) is a ubiquitous enzyme and its activity ispresent in all living organisms. Many functions including cyanide detoxification, formation of iron-sulfurcenters and participation in energy metabolism have been attributed to this enzyme. The enzyme catalyzesthe transfer of a sulfur atom from sulfane containing compounds (such as thiosulfat...
متن کاملIs sodium thiosulfate a therapeutic option for nonuremic calciphylaxis?
Introduction: Nonuremic calciphylaxis, a rare disorder with high mortality, is associated with severe calcifications of the media of arterioles which cause vascular occlusion and tissue necrosis. Case Report: A nonuremic calciphylaxis of the lower limb, possibly caused by coumarin therapy for atrial fibrillation. Treatment consisting of coumarin avoidance, vitamin K supplementation and thrice...
متن کاملImpact of de-aeration methods on the culture of Clostridium butyricum
Clostridium butyricum is a kind of anaerobic bacteria, so de-aeration is extremely important during culture. In this paper, adding sodium thiosulfate and cysteine as well as mixed culture with Saccharomyces cerevisiae were adopted in de-aeration during Clostridium butyricum culture. The experimental results showed that the optimal dosage of sodium thiosulfate was 0.004g/mL, where the biomass of...
متن کاملMeasuring plasma conductivity to detect sodium load in hemodialysis patients.
BACKGROUND Sodium thiosulfate therapy has been proposed for calcific uremic arteriolopathy and nephrogenic systemic fibrosis in hemodialysis patients. The treatment brings 3.7 g (161 mmol) of sodium. How to counterbalance this sodium load was studied. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, & MEASUREMENTS Plasma conductivity (Cp) and mass balance index were compared for 20 sessions without thiosulfate...
